417 Nurturing Dysregulated Teens – CANCELED

Ron Taffel • Saturday morning

Ron TaffelWe’re seeing more acting out and anxiety/affective disorders in adolescents than ever before. At the same time, our ideas of how to connect with young people who are allergic to anything that sounds like therapy talk remains utterly outdated. This workshop will present an approach that enables you to become a real, ongoing presence in kids’ lives, easing their dysregulation.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Match your style and task prescriptions to a young client’s learning temperament
  • Incorporate the art of metaphor in ways that encourage adolescent reflection
  • Use banter, storytelling, and ritual to get the attention of distracted and impulsive teens
  • Offer advice about kid dangers and fiercely “go to the mat” without losing your client

Ron Taffel, PhD, is chair of the Institute for Contemporary Psychotherapy in New York. His books include Getting Through to Difficult Kids and Parents and Childhood Unbound: Authoritative Parenting for the 21st Century.
