Rich Simon to be Awarded Mental Health Media Prize

Editor Rich Simon--our very own Networker rock star--will be honored for his editorial excellence with The Erikson Institute Prize for Excellence in Mental Health Media. This new award, presented by the Erik H. Erikson Institute for Education and Research, pays tribute to Rich Simon as well as NPR reporter Alix Spiegel and Erica Goode of The New York Times.

The purpose of this award, according to its guidelines, is to “reward and encourage sophisticated, accessible work on mental illness and recovery, and to stimulate conversation about the broad range of mental health issues.”

The prize will recognize three people yearly in a mental health media forum. This year, the forum will convene on June 12 in Stockbridge, Mass.

The Erikson Institute is housed at the Austen Riggs Center, which provides a wide variety of psychiatric treatments. It’s been named one of America’s best hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. The mission of the Institute--named after renowned psychoanalyst Erik Erikson and former Riggs staff member--is to bring learning from the Riggs program into a broader dialogue with mental health professionals and the public.

Rich Simon has dedicated immeasurable hours to ensuring the success of Psychotherapy Networker. The publication has won the National Magazine Award and recognition as one of the 50 Best Magazines in America from the Chicago Tribune along with numerous other awards. Rich has enhanced up-to-date learning with the variety of technological resources that Networker Plugged-In offers, as well as our lively, enlightening Symposium, which annually draws in more than 3,000 therapists.

Way to go, Rich!

The mental health media forum is open to the public for a $15 fee. Register online here.
